What is ICDP
The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) is an international research project that explores the history of global environmental changes and active processes of underground by drilling in continental regions around the world.
J-DSEC is consists of the ICDP Section and the IODP Section. J-DESC support and promote scientific activities in Japan related with continental scientific drilling as well as scientific ocean drilling.

Science Plan of ICDP
The ICDP Science Plan 2020-2030 focuses on the most important issues that ICDP aims to investigate over the next decade. The key questions address fundamental science and link to wider societal challenges encompassed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, to underpin the SDGs that are related to clean water and sanitation (Goal 6), affordable and clean energy (Goal 7), sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11), and climate action (Goal 13).
