【概要】
2021年のAGU-JpGU Taira Prize受賞者であり、2050 Science Frameworkの代表編者でもあるRosalind Coggonさんは、2022年4月9日から始まる大西洋横断航海（IODP Exp. 390とExp. 393）の主提案者であり、Exp. 390で共同首席を務めます。海洋プレートの形成とそこに記録されている長期環境変動に焦点を当て、とくに海洋地殻と海水との熱・元素交換反応の定量化と、地球規模の化学的循環に及ぼす影響を研究しています。Exp. 390/393航海では、大西洋中央海嶺の西側（7-61 Ma）のプレート拡大に沿って、堆積物と上部海洋地殻を掘削し、相互に関連する地球システムの多様なプロセスについて研究します。
本セミナーでは、Exp. 390航海直前の意気込みと、将来のマントル掘削への繋がりについてお話しして頂きます。
Dr. Rosalind Coggon, the 2021 AGU-JpGU Taira Prize winner, is Royal Society University Research Fellow within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on the role of fluids in the formation and evolution of the ocean crust, with a particular emphasis on quantifying the thermally driven chemical exchanges between the aging ocean crust and the overlying oceans and their influence on global geochemical cycles. She first sailed on a scientific ocean drilling expedition as a PhD student, and is now co-chief scientist of IODP Expedition 390/393 (The South Atlantic Transect) which will recover complete sediment sections and upper ocean crust along a crustal flow-line across the western flank of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (7-61 Ma), to investigate a diverse range of interconnected Earth system processes.
