IODP第386次研究航海オンショア・サイエンスパーティーにおける船上支援業務従事者の募集について

概要・背景
欧州海洋掘削研究コンソーシアム（European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling； ECORD）は、海洋研究開発機構研究プラットフォーム運用開発部門（JAMSTEC-MarE3）と連携し、IODP第386次研究航海「日本海溝地震履歴研究（Japan Trench Paleoseismology）」を計画・実施しています。この度、オンショア・サイエンスパーティーが行われる地球深部探査船「ちきゅう」のラボテクニシャンチームに加わっていただける学生または若手研究者を募集します。
2021年6月1日に完了した海底広域研究船「かいめい」による航海において、大口径長尺ピストンコアラーシステムによって総延長833mの柱状の海底堆積物試料（コア）が取得され、船上にて初期分析が実施されました。その後、2022年2月14日から3月15日までの期間、オンショア・サイエンスパーティーが清水港着岸中の「ちきゅう」上で実施される予定で、IODP第386次研究航海のサイエンスパーティーメンバーとサイエンスオペレーターにより、本IODP航海で取得されたコア試料の船上解析作業を行います。

募集対象
今回募集対象となるのは、大学院生もしくは若手研究者で、一般的な実験室作業の経験を有する方で、海洋科学掘削プロジェクトの現場経験を積むことに興味を持っている方が適しています。担当業務は、堆積物物性計測、地球化学分析、コア画像取得、コア試料のハンドリング、サンプリングなどさまざまな内容を含みます。業務を遂行する上で必要な、機器の取り扱いや作業手順等に関するトレーニングを実施します。
※今回の募集はサイエンスパーティーメンバーではなく、船上支援業務の短期従事者の募集であることをご承知おきください。

・新型コロナウイルス感染症のワクチンを２回接種済みの方
・2月9日から2月14日までのホテル待機期間及び2月14日から3月15日までの「ちきゅう」乗船期間のすべてにおいて従事することが可能な方（「ちきゅう」は着岸していますが、乗船後に一時下船することはできません）
待遇等
ECORD Science Operator (ESO)は、この業務従事者へ必要な交通費、宿泊費ならびに報酬を支給します。
船上支援業務従事者となる方は、海洋研究開発機構（JAMSTEC）の臨時研究補助員として就業いただきます。ESOの指示により、支給額はJAMSTECの規定に基づきます。「ちきゅう」船上では宿泊設備および食事が提供されます。

Overview and Background
“IODP Expedition 386: Japan Trench Paleoseismology is offering an opportunity for a student or early career researcher to join the expedition’s technical team. This expedition is being jointly run by the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) and the Institute for Marine-Earth Exploration and Engineering (MarE3) within the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).
The offshore phase, which was completed, collected and initially analyzed 833m of giant piston core on 1 Jun 2021. From 14 February – 15 March 2022, an Onshore Science Party will be held onboard the drilling vessel Chikyu docked in the Port of Shimizu to conduct IODP core analysis.

Eligible Applicant(s)
The position is suited to a graduate student or early career researcher with general laboratory experience, who is interested in a development and familiarization opportunity within scientific ocean drilling projects. Tasks will be varied, and may include supporting the physical properties and geochemistry measurements programs, core imaging, and core handling and sampling. Training will be provided for any instruments or procedures that are unfamiliar.
Please note that this is a support position, and not a Science Party position.

Conditions of Employment
The ECORD Science Operator (ESO) will provide remuneration, as well as all travel, hotels and pay. This support staff will be a temporary research assistant of JAMSTEC. All payments are based on JAMSTEC’s rule. Full accommodation and catering will be provided while onboard the Chikyu.
