航海の目的
この研究航海は、海洋地殻内の水文地質学的評価、活動的熱水システムの中での流体の経路、そし て、流体の循環および変化、そして微生物学的特徴、さらには地震波に対する属性を明らかにすることを目的としています。以上の目的を達成するため、 Site SR-2において海底下の海洋地殻中に2つの新しい孔内観測装置を設置し、長期モニタリング（圧力、温度、地球化学、微生物学）および、Exp. 301とODP Leg 168において設置された観測装置との間でcross-hole hydrologic experimentを行います。
この航海は主に海底下観測装置の設置のためのオペレーションであり、船上での科 学研究としては1サイトのみで行う海底下300m以浅の基盤岩のコアリング、限定されたロギング、そしてドリル・システムによる水文学的実験のみとなりま す。本航海ではフルサイエンスパーティーを必要としないため、研究者に加え教育やアウトリーチに携わる方々、技術者、そして訓練生として乗船する方も募集 します。
